About the Chorus
The Hope Middle School Chorus is open to any student in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. The classes are non-auditioned and do not require previous experience. Chorus is a year long Encore class. Students will have the opportunity to learn how to sing with proper vocal technique by singing a wide variety of music.
Students also learn music reading skills using Kodaly syllables and handsigns. Because reading music is a skill, it is practiced in class everyday. Students also have the opportunity to perform together in concerts at school and throughout the community.
In addition to the class and concerts, students have the opportunity to participate in cultural field trips to see musical productions throughout the state of North Carolina. Check out the Opportunities link to find out about other things in which Hope chorus students may participate.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is chorus?
Chorus is a class that all interested students who like singing and music sing together for performances.
Do I have to audition?
No, you do not have to audition. You also do not have to be a soloist to participate in chorus! You learn to sing by singing with others.
Will I ever have to sing by myself?
No. You will never be made to sing by yourself. Unless you’d like, of course!
What kind of music will we sing?
All kinds. There are many types of music in the world and do not limit ourselves to one particular style.
What do I have to wear?
Hope Middle School Chorus students purchase a chorus polo at the beginning of the year. The polo is worn with khaki pants and brown dress shoes. We wear this concert attire at all performances.

Each grade level has its own chorus class that meets all year.
Can I take other Encore classes like Art, STEM, and Computers?
Yes! Although chorus meets all year long, it is one of two elective classes (called Encore) that meet during the day. You can take other classes during your second Encore class.
